Pence: Central Americans should not come to U.S. if they cannot come legally

BRASILIA (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said on Tuesday during the first stop of a Latin America tour that if Central Americans thinking of immigrating to the United States “can’t come legally, don’t come at all.”

Pence made the comment during a joint statement to press with Brazilian President Michel Temer amid an immigration crisis on the United States’ southern border with Mexico.

Pence and Temer said they spoke extensively about the unraveling Venezuelan economy and a resulting migrant crisis, along with how Brazil and the United States can strengthen trade and business ties.
